Abstract: The important competitive Egyptian agricultural crop exports to the Russian Federation
This research is examining the most important competitive indicators in Russian market for the main Egyptian exports potatoes, onions and orange crops, The research depends on published and unpublished secondary data.
The average quantity of Egypt potatoes exported to the Russian market has reached about 527 tons with a market share of about 24% of the total import market during that period. The export price for Egypt and the competing countries turns out that Egypt enjoys a competitive advantage in Russian market with a competitive export price about 419 $ /ton. The average amount of Egypt's Onion exports amounted to about 73 thousand tons and has a market share of about 18% of total imports to Russian market of onions. Egypt also has competitive price advantage in the Russian market compared to the most important countries, where the average export price for Egypt is about 370 $ / ton. The average amount of Egypt's exports of Orange amounted to about 192 thousand tons and has a market share about 38% of the total imports of the Russian market of orange. Egypt also has competitive price advantage in the Russian market where the average export price for Egypt is about 550 $/ton.
Studying the Export windows for the studied crops using the monthly data for the import of Russian market of potatoes as an average for the period (2012-2014) monthly seasonality estimate using the modified record shows that the most important export months for Egyptian Potatoes are during March to June when both China and the Netherlands compete Egypt in along the export period, while Uzbekistan competes Egypt partially during the months of May and June. For the Egyptian onion export, season in the Russian market is considered the period from July to February, and the competition come from China, Netherlands and Kazakhstan during the export period where they are located within the market throughout the year. The most important export months for Egypt are April and June, where Kazakhstan and Turkey are existed. This is because the low market share of Egypt, which amounts to about 18% of the total imports from Russia to the onion export window to Egypt within the Russian market compared to competing countries. For Egyptian oranges export, season within the Russian market is from December to June, where Morocco and Spain compete Egypt completely where they are located within the market throughout the Egyptian export season. The most important export months of Egypt are February and March where the biggest rival to Egypt within the Russian market is the state of South Africa, but its export season starts from June to December.
Studying the relationship between the amount of Egyptian exports of potatoes to the Russian market as the dependent variable and explanatory factors shows that the total amount of imports to Russia, price, the ratio between the Netherlands and Egypt and the average per capita income in dollars per year are the most important factors affecting the dependent variable, The relationship between the amount of Egyptian exports of potatoes, the amount of imports from Russia and the price ratio between New Zealand and per capita national income are the most affecting factors. Increasing them by 1% leads to increaseing the quantity exported from the Egyptian potatoes in the Russian market by 0.87%, 0.81% and 0.63%, respectively, for onion the affecting factors are the export price, total the research show that The increase by 1% in each leads to an increase in the quantity exported of the Egyptian onions in the Russian market by 1.67%, 2.2%, respectively. Studying the relationship between the amount for affecting factors are the export price of Spain, exchange rate/dollar, the amount of Russian imports of oranges in tons, the amount of Russia's production of oranges in tons and the price of Egyptian export $ /ton. The increase of them by 1% leads to an increase of the quantity exported of the Egyptian oranges in the Russian market by 0.96%, 1.66% and 1.2%, respectively, during the same period, As demonstrated by the presence of the inverse relationship between the amount of Egyptian exports of oranges and all Russia's production of orange and price Egyptian exports as increasing them by 1% leads to increase the quantity exported from the Egyptian oranges in the Russian market by 1.2% and 0.13%.
