El-Kanater Horticulture research station was established since 1920 as a farm belonging to Egyptian Horticulture authority, then it developed to the greater specialist station in horticulture fields in Egypt on July 26,1963.
The station has distinguished site where it lies between the two branches of Nile River at Delta head on the border of three Governorates(Giza,Qalubia and Minufyia and it farway 20 Km western Cairo. It was considered scientific Institute as it includes the most Researchers departments of Horticulture Research Institute, in addition represented departments of other Institutes of Agriculture Research Center, Area of station is about 92 feddan divided into four regions.
1- El-Maeia.
2- Eastern mango.
3- El-Eslahia.
4- El- Sahel.

-Cross - Pollination Vegetavle crops Research Department.
-Self - Pollination vegatable crops Research Department.
2- Citrus Research department.
3- Tropical fruit Research Departments that include: Mango,Banana,Avocado, Papaya and Date Palms.
4- Deciduous fruit Research Department such as apricot, Plum,Peach,pear and apple.
5- Olive and Semi Arid Zone fruit Research department such as fig,Guava, Pecan, Almond,Pomegranate.
6- Viticulture Research Department.
7- Ornamental plants Research Department.
8- Timber trees and forestry research Department

The station includes some specialists for different institutes of agricultural research center such as:
1-Soil and irrigation research institute (water requirements and plant feeding divisions).
2-Plant pathology and entomology research istitute which survey and study the diseases and their distribution, their pathogenicity and mode of infection in order to advise the farmer, in addition studying the insect which attach horticulture crops.
3- Central research laboratory of weeds.
4- Extensional and rural research institute.
5- Plant protection research institute(Bees and sureness research division).
* Important laboratories:
1- Cenral laboratory includes: Atomic absorption, HPLC,GLC, spectrophotometer and electrophrases.
2- Three laboratories of samples preparation and include oven dry, sensitive weightier weights, leaf area system.
3- feeding plant laboratory.
4-Tissue culture laboratory to serve and produce fruits and vegtable crops department on a commercial scal and serving the researches programs by providing new in vitro culture techniques that necessary for improving the quantity and quality of horticultural crops through applying suitable and searching for optimal treatments for enhancing production capacity by micro propagation.
5- Plant anatomy laboratory.
